Description
Nature enthusiasts and gardeners love this handmade, copper, Lady’s Slipper necklace.
The Minnesota state flower is the feminine-looking Lady’s Slipper orchid. It grows slowly, taking up to 16 years to produce the first flowers! Blooming in late June or early July, the plants may live, on average, about 50 years and can grow to be over four feet tall. Since 1925, this rare wildflower has been protected by Minnesota state law. In fact, it’s illegal to pick, uproot or unearth the flowers.
The dark and turquoise-colored patinas make it look weather worn. I have applied a metal sealer to help preserve the colors.
To achieve the design on the necklace, I have used an acid etching technique. Years of experimenting with and fine tuning the process have led to the intricate details you see here.
The medallion measures 1″ long x 0.5″ wide. The necklace features a Flat Oval Metal Chain, in antique copper finish, with a claw hook closure. It measures 16” long and is adjustable.
