Six Year Anniversary of GaleForce Design Jewelry

Around 15 years ago, I embarked on a journey into the world of metalsmithing. It all began with my first metalsmithing class, and I still vividly remember the teacher’s words: “You’re a natural.” That encouragement ignited a passion within me, driving me to soak up every bit of knowledge the class had to offer.

However, as that initial class came to an end, I faced a dilemma. I didn’t have the necessary space to continue crafting in a workshop. So, I had to put my newfound skills on hold for a while.

A Fresh Start

Fast forward five years, and the opportunity to revisit metalsmithing arose. This time, I enrolled in a class taught by a different professor, hoping to gain fresh insights and acquire new skills. And indeed, I was right. Under this new mentorship, I delved even deeper into the art of metalsmithing.

Around this time, my life took another beautiful turn as I got married, and my husband built me a sturdy workbench. Little did I know what a game-changer that would be! It was in 2014 that GaleForce Design Jewelry came to life and from that moment, there was no looking back.

For the next four years, I led a dual life. By day, I served as a graphic design manager at a company, while by night, I would return home to my creative haven, crafting jewelry nearly every evening. My jewelry found its way into art shows, galleries, and gift shops, gradually making its mark in the world.

A Leap of Faith

But it was in the fall of 2018 that I took a leap of faith, leaving my role as a graphic design manager to wholeheartedly dedicate myself to the art of metalsmithing and freelance graphic design work. This decision marked a turning point in my journey as an entrepreneur, and I haven’t looked back since.

This is the story of how GaleForce Design Jewelry was born, a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the unwavering support of those who believe in the magic of handmade creations.

The Evolution of My Craft

Over the years, my journey of creating acid-etched copper jewelry has undergone significant evolution. Through countless experiments and the relentless pursuit of perfection, I’ve honed my skills, sometimes even recalling Bob Ross’s famous phrase, “happy accidents.” In my case, these ‘accidents’ often came with a high cost, yet they proved to be invaluable in driving my artistic growth and inspiring the development of innovative techniques.

As a creative spirit, I have an affinity for exploring various artistic avenues. I find that if I linger too long within one medium, boredom creeps in. But here’s the beautiful constant: I always return to my enduring love of copper. While you’ll occasionally find me delving into different realms of artistry, copper remains the beating heart of my craft. It’s where my journey began, and it’s a passion that continues to inspire me.

Nature’s Influence on My Work

As a child, I immersed myself in the wonders of the natural world. I would spend endless hours exploring the peaceful woods and the tranquil shores of our nearby lake, deeply engrossed in the intricate tapestry of nature. It was during these moments that I began to truly appreciate the delicate details of plants, the vibrant hues of flowers, the steadfast presence of trees, and the harmony of animals coexisting in their distinct ecosystems.

For me, turtles, frogs, minnows, dragonflies, butterflies, and lightning bugs weren’t just creatures; they were my childhood friends. Their existence, their resilience, and their intricate dance within the ecosystem left an indelible mark on my young heart. Even now, they remain steadfast as my greatest sources of inspiration in crafting jewelry.

Nature, in all its unspoiled splendor, occupies a special and profound place in my heart. It’s the wellspring of inspiration that fuels my creative journey. Each piece of jewelry I create carries with it a piece of this connection to our environment, reflecting the unique beauty of the world that has forever captivated my soul.
